We created this website to share all the details of our wedding with you. It means so much to us to celebrate this special moment with each of you!

Here, you’ll also find information like accommodation options, transportation, attire suggestions, and more.

Please don’t forget to reply by clicking on the “RSVP” tab and filling out the form.

We’re lucky to have already built a home together, so we won’t be having a traditional registry.

Truly, your presence is the greatest gift. But if you’d still like to give a gift, we’ll have a card box at the wedding, or you’re welcome to send a gift via Venmo. As our website is based in Brazil, international cards can sometimes be difficult to use.

Any contribution will go toward our future adventures together.

We truly can’t wait to celebrate with you!

welcome to brazil

We’re getting married in Brazil — and you’re invited!

Yes, we know that might sound a little far away, but we promise it’s going to be worth the trip. Brazil is an incredibly beautiful and diverse country, and while most people have heard of Rio and São Paulo, that’s not where we’re taking you. So, where exactly are we taking you all?

Well, you might have talked to Jess about her hometown once or twice, but here is the breakdown:

Belo Horizonte (Bell-oh Hoh-ree-ZON-chee), or as locals call it Bêagá, is the capital of the state of Minas Gerais and the fifth largest city in Brazil, with a population of around 2.4 million. Its metropolitan area is the third largest in the country, with about 6 million people (Yeah, it's a big city! Think Austin, Texas). The region was first settled in the early 18th century, but the city as it is known today was planned and constructed in the 1890s to replace Ouro Preto as the capital of Minas Gerais.

Ouro Preto (OH-roo PRAY-toh) is where we’re taking you! Ouro Preto is a former colonial mining town and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to its stunning Baroque architecture. So picture a mountain town with dreamy scenery and incredible food (Minas Gerais is known all over the country for its cuisine).

Now that you know more about where we’re going, let’s go over the logistics.

Ouro Preto is about a 1 hour and 30 minute drive from Belo Horizonte. We suggest arriving in Belo Horizonte by August 28th, the Friday before the wedding. There is so much to do and see in Bêagá, and very importantly August 29th is our dear groom’s birthday. We’d love to celebrate it with you in a truly Brazilian way.

We understand that PTO might be an issue, and not everyone will be able to spend more than a week in Brazil. For those of you coming only for the wedding, we recommend arriving in Belo Horizonte no later than September 1st. There will be a shuttle to Ouro Preto the day before the wedding (September 2nd), giving you time to explore — which is totally worth it. Come on, it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site! — and to settle in before the festivities.

Let us know your estimated arrival date, and we’d be happy to help you plan your trip. Jess especially loves travel planning and will be thrilled to help with the logistics.

Desde o nosso primeiro encontro, ele me encantou.

Our Story

By Dana

I had been living in San Diego for over a year, struggling to find my place. Trying to figure out what I’m doing with a postdoc research fellowship, realizing that I don’t actually know how to surf, getting back into swimming, and living in a mansion sized house, shared with six other young people trying to make it in San Diego.

Around Halloween 2022, I found myself out at a costume party with some of my housemates, dressed up as a skeleton wondering what I’m doing there. Instead of socializing at the party, I spent most of the night messaging this infatuating and beautiful woman who had liked my photo on the dating app Hinge.

One week later, and one date idea rained out in unusual San Diego fashion, we had our first date. We talked about normal first date things – travel, family, capybaras that got “sent to a farm upstate”, etc. Before long, we were completely smitten and somehow started spending everyday together. One month later we traveled out to Catalina Island, off the coast of Los Angeles, where we had great seafood, rode in a submarine, and only one of us crashed their bike into a wall.

I proposed to Jess in the Anza Borrego Desert State Park surrounded by purple wildflowers. Not long after, we eloped in San Diego. Why did we elope you ask? What do you mean you’re already married you ask? Well yes, we had always wanted to get married in Brazil, but at the time Jess wasn’t able to leave the country due to visa restrictions. We didn't want to wait years to get married and eloped with the plan of throwing a wedding in Brazil when the time was right.

And now’s the time! We’re so excited to celebrate with our closest friends and family in Ouro Preto. We sincerely hope you are able to make the trip, it would mean everything to us.

A few of our favorite places to enjoy in the city are:

Mercado Central — A lively and authentic space to experience local flavors, discover regional specialties, and take in the spirit of Minas Gerais.

Travel INFORMATION

Before you pack your bags for Brazil, here are a few things you should know:

VISA

As of 2025, citizens of Australia, Canada, and the United States traveling to Brazil for tourism are required to obtain a visa prior to entry. The process is simple and entirely online. The visa is usually valid for 10 years and allows stays of up to 90 days — perfect for celebrating with us and exploring the country.

To apply, you’ll need a valid passport, a recent passport-style photo, a completed application form, and to pay a fee (around $80). Processing usually takes 5–7 business days, we recommend applying at least a month in advance to make sure everything is in order before the wedding.

You can apply here: https://brazil.vfsevisa.com/

If you need any assistance, we’re here to help. Jess has also prepared a letter in Portuguese addressed to Brazilian immigration that you can include with your application — feel free to reach out if you’d like a copy.

GETTING TO BRAZIL

You have a few different options for getting to Belo Horizonte and unfortunately, none of them include direct flights from the U.S. But honestly, that’s part of what makes Belo Horizonte one of Brazil’s hidden gems. The city is known for its incredible food, vibrant bar culture, and warm, welcoming people and it’s the perfect place to start your journey to Ouro Preto.

Most major U.S. airports offer direct flights to São Paulo (GRU) and Rio de Janeiro (GIG). From either city, you can take a short connecting flight (about 1 hour) to Belo Horizonte (CNF), depending on what works best for your schedule and budget. São Paulo usually has more flight options.

Hint: Travelmath.com is a great resource when planning international travel. It can help you find which U.S. airports offer direct flights to/from Brazil. You can explore options here: https://www.travelmath.com/nonstop-flight/from/United+States/to/Brazil

GETTING TO OURO PRETO

As mentioned, Belo Horizonte is the main arrival city for your trip. You’ll fly into Tancredo Neves International Airport (CNF). From there, you’ll travel to Ouro Preto, where the wedding will take place. The drive is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic.

We recommend arriving in Belo Horizonte no later than September 1st, so you have time to settle in and enjoy the surroundings. We will be organizing a shuttle from Belo Horizonte to Ouro Preto the day before the wedding (September 2nd). More details will be shared closer to the date.

There are also other transportation options available from the airport, including private transfers, and ride share services (such as Uber), if you prefer to travel on your own.
